Remember to Return Borrowed Household Items

Before putting a borrowed book or tool into your own storage, record its owner, included parts, and return arrangement. This guide concerns belongings, not loans of money.
Keep the set identifiable
Note the item, owner, case, and accessories. Agree on handling and permitted use. Do not alter it or lend it onward without permission.
Separate the agreement from your plan
Record the agreed date and method, then choose a practical opportunity to take it back. If the arrangement is unclear, ask rather than assuming you may keep it longer.
Check before handing it over
Match the item and parts to your note. If damage or a problem appears, explain it and discuss the response rather than improvising a repair to hide it. Packing a return bag is not the same as returning the item.
An example and a stopping point
For a borrowed book being returned at a weekend meeting, note both “book in return bag beside desk” and the meeting at which you will take it. If the meeting changes, review the return plan too. Finish the record when receipt is confirmed. If another household member helps, explain the handover clearly without exposing unnecessary contact information on the outside of the bag.
